The Jones - Hey Mina (Foul) (1969)

The Jones were a Jovem Guarda group from Rio who mostly recorded instrumentals of songs like Judy in Disguise and Crystal Blue Persuasion.  I guess they were successful enough since they recorded six LPs. This 45 from late in their career is ultra rare, and I don’t blame the collectors for paying high prices cause it’s really fantastic. Unlike their previous recordings, this is an original, written by guitarist Edson Klein. It sounds like someone got a new wah wah pedal and wanted to try it out on the chords to I’m Not Your Stepping Stone. Then the song hits a more funky samba groove a la Jorge Ben, before again returning to the heavy fuzztone part. Fabulous.
